This makes his group of judicial appointees the most diverse ever chosen by a president. When he was running for president, Mr. Biden promised to make the federal judiciary more diverse. He also promised to appoint the first Black female justice to the high court. He fulfilled this promise by choosing Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, who replaced retired Justice Stephen G. Breyer in 2022.
