Biden Approves $1 Billion in Military Aid to Israel Amid Gaza Conflict

The Biden administration has informed critical lawmakers about its decision to provide Israel with a new package of over $1 billion in weapons and ammunition, as per two congressional aides on Tuesday.

This move marks the first arms delivery to Israel that has been announced by the administration since it earlier halted the transfer of 3,500 bombs. The administration had paused this transfer to prevent Israel from using the bombs in its ongoing offensive in the densely populated southern Gaza city of Rafah.

The aides, speaking anonymously to share details of an arms transfer that has not been publicly disclosed, indicated that the package includes approximately $700 million for tank ammunition, $500 million for tactical vehicles, and $60 million for mortar rounds.

The timing for the shipment of the arms has not been immediately revealed. Israel is currently in the seventh month of its conflict against Hamas in Gaza.
