Philadelphia played host to what can only be described as a Biden blunderfest this past Sunday. While the President aimed to gain some much-needed campaign traction, what transpired might have just put another nail in the coffin of his 2024 presidential hopes.
First off, a supposed routine piece on local TV network KYW-TV took a wild turn when one of Biden’s own volunteers, Solomon Troupe, delivered a potshot that made even the anchors squirm. Troupe candidly commented on Biden’s campaign visit with the enthusiasm of a teenager meeting a rock star, then added the zinger of all zingers by wondering if the President would be awake for his own event. Laugh-out-loud moments ensued, but not the kind Team Biden wanted splashed across social media.

Republicans were quick to seize on the gaffe, with RNC Research amplifying the cringe-worthy clip faster than Hunter Biden can misplace a laptop. The Republican National Committee posted the video, and the reactions, unsurprisingly, ranged from amused to exasperated, as folks couldn’t quite comprehend that even Biden’s own foot soldiers were skeptical of his alertness.
Just when it seemed things couldn’t get any more awkward for the Biden campaign, the segment took a detour to a local pizza shop, where it became crystal clear that Trump still holds a sacred spot in the hearts of many Pennsylvanians. One pizza shop worker openly lamented the Biden administration’s failures, particularly the sky-high costs exacerbated by inflation, and fondly reminisced about better times under Trump. For those in the suburbs of Philadelphia, this might be the deciding factor come election day. Because while the city itself leans heavily blue, the surrounding areas often swing and sway like a flag on a windy day.
This incident in Pennsylvania, a battleground state teetering on the edge, underscores a deeper problem for the Democrats. When campaign volunteers feel bold enough to publicly jest about the President’s questionable fitness for office, it’s a dangerous sign. If this shaky enthusiasm trickles down to the voters, Biden might find himself out of a job next November.
Amidst the spectacle, it’s essential to remember that Philadelphia and its surroundings are not just a random pitstop in the electoral map. Pennsylvania’s 19 Electoral College votes could be the deciding factor in 2024. And if Biden supporters themselves are making light of his frequent naptime needs, one can only imagine the nightmare scenario unfolding in Democratic headquarters. The stakes couldn’t be higher, and yet their candidate seems perpetually stuck in low gear.
In any case, Biden’s Philly trip is one for the books but not for the reasons his team had hoped for. More like a comedy of errors than a campaign triumph, it leaves one wondering if the greatest challenge for Biden isn’t his Republican opponent but staying awake and alert long enough to compete.
