Biden Pushes Radical Overhaul of Supreme Court with Term Limits and Ethics Code

President Joe Biden has shifted gears from simply venting his frustrations about the Supreme Court to actively plotting its overhaul. After the Court ruled that a president’s official acts are largely immune from criminal prosecution, Biden found his soapbox and is now screaming for reform. This latest episode of political drama has all the hallmarks of a desperate attempt to rein in a Court that’s unwilling to bend to the whims of the left.

The president’s new scheme, as outlined by Reuters, entails a slew of demands, including term limits for justices and an enforceable ethics code. It’s a wonder Biden hasn’t proposed a simple solution of just blue-painting the justices’ robes to fit the Democratic agenda. On top of the term limit talk, there’s also the prospect of pushing a constitutional amendment aimed at curtailing the criminal immunity enjoyed by presidents and public officials. It looks like he believes that if the rule of law doesn’t bend to his preferences, then perhaps he can just change the rules.

Earlier, in an Oval Office speech announcing he wouldn’t seek reelection, Biden laid some groundwork for this latest judicial crusade. It’s almost humorous how a sitting president is plotting reform at a time when nobody finds him particularly trustworthy. One could argue that he should be more concerned about his own ethical dilemmas rather than tossing around demands for an ethics overhaul on the Supreme Court.

Not one to miss a chance to jump on the bandwagon, Elizabeth Warren is itching to reshape the Court into something more aligned with the progressive vision. The Massachusetts Senator is giddy at the prospect of increasing the number of justices, which many see as a blatant attempt to stack the Court in favor of leftist ideologies. If an ethical code for justices is on the table, perhaps Warren should consider adding a “no packing the court” clause to her wishlist. After all, just because one doesn’t like the ruling doesn’t mean the solution is to throw a bunch of new justices into the mix who will toe the party line.

On the flip side, there are wise voices in the Senate who aren’t buying this leftist fantasy. Lindsey Graham, the stalwart Republican from South Carolina, has promised that Biden’s proposals will meet a swift demise. Graham characterizes the Biden plan as not merely reform but an all-out assault aimed at dismantling the conservative majority on the bench. His strong words reflect an understanding that when liberals sniff around the judicial system, their only goal is to dilute any conservative influence, and Graham isn’t having any of it. In a world where the rule of law is sacred, the last thing needed is more judicial chaos– especially at the hands of those who have a track record of ignoring the rules when it suits them.
