In a much-anticipated event, President Joe Biden is set to meet with the leaders of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters on Tuesday. This pow-wow comes hot on the heels of the union’s surprising decision to make its first donation to Republicans in a whopping two decades. What a twist, folks!
President Biden, who loves to tout himself as the most pro-union president in history, is crossing his fingers and hoping that the Teamsters will throw their endorsement his way after their little tête-à-tête. But hold your horses! Don’t start celebrating just yet. The rank-and-file union members don’t always see eye-to-eye with their leaders when it comes to politics. In fact, the Teamsters caused a stir earlier this year by making a $45,000 donation to the Republican National Committee. And get this, they also handed over $45,000 to the Democratic National Committee. Now, that’s what you call playing both sides of the aisle, folks.

It’s no secret that union donations usually lean heavily toward the Democrats. So, this unexpected split in their donations is definitely raising some eyebrows. The Teamsters had previously thrown their weight behind Biden in the 2020 election, and the last time they slipped some cash to the Republican National Committee was way back in 2004. How about them apples?
But wait, there’s more! Teamsters President Sean O’Brien even had a sit-down with former President Trump at Mar-a-Lago earlier this year, and Trump paid a visit to the union’s Washington headquarters in January. Talk about making the rounds, folks.
Biden is gearing up to host a hush-hush campaign meeting with the Teamsters leaders during lunchtime, as he’s hoping to add another feather to his cap with their endorsement. Let’s not forget, the President already snagged the backing of the influential United Auto Workers after he gallivanted to Michigan and joined the UAW on the picket line during their strike. A man of the people, indeed!
