President Joe Biden recently demonstrated yet again his bewildering grasp on the mechanisms of the federal government. During a press conference, he suggested that the Secret Service requires “more help” after another assassination attempt on former President Trump while he was out enjoying a round of golf in Florida. This statement raises eyebrows, given that Biden himself holds the reins over the Department of Homeland Security, the very agency tasked with overseeing the Secret Service.
The implications of Biden’s comments are staggering. Instead of taking decisive action, the president appears to be throwing his hands up and looking to Congress, as if he doesn’t have the authority or the means to allocate additional resources to protect a former president. Who is in charge here? It’s hard to imagine that in a time of crisis, the president couldn’t pick up the phone to increase Trump’s security detail immediately—a simple directive that should be within his purview.

Instead of addressing the urgent need for enhanced protection, Biden’s approach resembles the typical Democratic strategy of looking to spend more taxpayer dollars. If there are efficiency or personnel concerns within the Secret Service, wouldn’t it make more sense for the president to investigate and rectify these issues before publicly calling for more funding? This “more money” mentality reinforces the narrative that Democrats often see financial solutions as the first and only response to problems, rather than investigating the root causes.
Moreover, there are legitimate concerns about the competency of those assigned to primary protective details. The Secret Service, like many other government entities, has faced criticism for allowing politically charged initiatives like diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) to overshadow the paramount responsibility of safeguarding individuals. The agents who put themselves in harm’s way during the recent incidents should be commended, but there is a pressing need to ensure that the selection and training processes prioritize skill and readiness over fulfilling a DEI quota.
The current administration’s reluctance to take full responsibility only serves to highlight a leadership vacuum. Historical presidents, like Harry Truman, embodied the phrase “The buck stops here,” but under Biden, it seems that no such principle exists. Instead, the mindset appears to be “The buck stops anywhere but here.” This pattern of behavior fosters the perception that Biden is unwilling to confront the critical realities facing his administration.
In light of these alarming events, it might be wise for Trump to consider securing private protection. Given the unsettling frequency of threats against him, taking matters into his own hands may well be the most sensible choice. The country can only hope that Biden finally starts to grasp the gravity of the situations at hand and begins acting like the leader the nation needs, rather than deflecting blame and responsibility.
