Biden Tariffs Hit American Wallets, Critics Slam Green Policy Costs

The Biden administration’s brilliant strategy to protect America involves slapping more tariffs on Chinese imports, such as steel, aluminum, semiconductors, batteries, and even medical equipment. Yes, the administration claims these tariffs are meant to safeguard American-made products, but in the end, who’s footing the bill? That’s right—it’s the American consumers. Once again, politicians seem to think that the cost of building their green utopia should fall squarely on the shoulders of working-class families.

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen declared that Biden’s new tariffs aim to combat the so-called “excess Chinese capacity” targeting electric vehicles and solar energy products. China, unsurprisingly, has pledged to retaliate, warning that it will take measures to defend its interests. In a move that shocks absolutely no one, those retaliatory measures will likely escalate costs even further for American consumers.

Even industry experts have chimed in, noting that the real burden falls on the importers, who will then pass down the inflated costs to—you guessed it—everyday Americans. Robert Um of the OEC Group in Chicago highlights this inconvenient truth. While the administration proudly waves its protectionist flags, families across the country will feel the sting in their wallets.

This isn’t the first round of tariff-induced inflation Americans have had to deal with. Major shoe brands like Nike and Adidas have previously begged the administration to lift tariffs put in place during the Trump era. Now, as the Biden administration doubles down on EV-related tariffs, it may slow the green energy agenda that it’s trying so hard to force down everyone’s throat. Automakers have already sounded the alarm, indicating that without cheaper Chinese components, electric vehicles will remain out of reach for the average consumer.

Rich Moskowitz, a voice of reason in this chaotic mess, stated that this policy will not only increase costs for consumers but will also strain the U.S. electric grid, contribute to more traffic, and undermine energy independence. Why sacrifice America’s robust economy on the altar of climate change ideology?

Adding more fuel to the fire, the Illinois Corn Growers Association has joined forces with a coalition of agricultural and oil industry representatives to sue the EPA over what they see as the costly electrification of America’s vehicle fleet. The bottom line? Biden’s misguided tariffs are about as welcome as a screen door on a submarine, leaving consumers to bail out the water.
