Congress has every right to demand transparency — especially when it comes to President Biden’s shady use of the autopen to sign pardons, stays, and clemencies. This isn’t just a technicality or a procedural hiccup; it’s a blatant sidestepping of the Constitution. The president’s handwritten signature is supposed to guarantee authenticity and personal accountability. Yet here we have a blurred line, where “Joe Biden” isn’t even the one putting pen to paper. Instead, some machine is doing the work, and Democrats expect us to just trust it? That’s not how government is supposed to operate.
Senator Josh Hawley rightly called out this administration for its stonewalling. The law is crystal clear: The president must personally approve anything signed by an autopen. It can’t be some behind-the-scenes operator clicking a button on Biden’s behalf—which, given his ongoing mental and physical decline, feels suspiciously convenient for the White House. By demanding the release of every memo, briefing book, and paper trail connected to these pardons, Hawley is shining a much-needed spotlight on this mess. If the president actually authorized the use of the autopen properly, there should be a stack of paperwork proving it. But so far, the Biden camp is hiding behind silence and obfuscation. The public deserves concrete proof, not empty promises or vague assurances from officials who were once buried in Biden’s inner circle. The time for vague denials is over.
