President Joe Biden sent a delegation to Mexico to tackle the ongoing southern border crisis. But surprise, surprise – despite the meeting, the crisis persists. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas led the delegation and met with Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador and other Mexican officials in Mexico City. Shockingly, the joint communique published by the United States and Mexico did not outline any concrete agreements or policy shifts to address the surge in illegal migration.

The joint statement spoke of existing commitments to foster orderly, humane, and regular migration, addressing root causes such as poverty, inequality, democratic decline, and violence, and promoting legal instead of irregular migration pathways. The statement also discussed regularizing the situation of long-term undocumented Hispanic migrants and DACA recipients.
President Biden has been under fire for reportedly backing off a pathway to citizenship for DACA recipients and illegal immigrants, opting to pursue a security aid package for Ukraine instead. It seems like he’s more concerned about helping foreigners than taking care of issues at home. Plus, if DACA recipients and illegal immigrants gain citizenship, it could mean a potential financial windfall for Mexico, with the country receiving nearly $56 billion in remittances from migrants living in the U.S. in 2022.
Let’s not forget the surge in illegal border crossings during Biden’s time in office, with roughly 8 million border encounters over the past three years. This issue is an absolute mess, and it’s going to have a significant impact on the 2024 presidential election. Former President Donald Trump has been calling out Biden on his mishandling of the border, even though he himself didn’t manage to finish building the border wall during his own time in office.
The Democratic strategists are admitting that Biden’s immigration policies just aren’t The president’s policies aren’t cutting it, and the problem has been brewing for years. If Biden doesn’t pick up the slack, he’s going to lose support from both progressive voters and immigration activists.
The southern border crisis is a real head-scratcher, and it’s clear that Biden and his administration are struggling to find a solution. The American people are getting tired of the same old song and dance.
