Biden’s Church Hosts Pride Mass, Sparks Catholic Outrage & Protests

President Joe Biden’s Catholic Church in Washington, D.C., Holy Trinity Catholic Church, incited a controversy Wednesday by conducting a Pride mass to which many conservative Catholics responded with a “Rosary Rally” protest.

Father Kevin Gillespie of Georgetown’s Holy Trinity Catholic Church claimed that the church’s mission statement is “to accompany one another in Christ, celebrate God’s love, and transform lives.” Their celebration of pride was not aimed at celebrating egoism, but rather the dignity of individuals who have been the targets of violence, harassment, and bullying for too long. As it “reaches out to LGBTQIA+ people, it reaches out to all Catholics in our area.” Holy Trinity clarified that the mass is not intended to celebrate pride as a “sin,” but rather to extend “human dignity” to the LGBTQIA+ community.

Individuals have spoken out against the church’s stance, pointing out that the Catholic belief dictates that homosexual activity is a “grave depravity” and “intrinsically disordered.” Furthermore, the Catechism of the Catholic Church considers “pride” as one of the “seven capital sins,” which leads to other transgressions.

It’s no surprise that Catholic leaders and congregants are alarmed at this slap in the face to traditional values, especially considering Catholic politicians like President Biden and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi attend church there.

To object to the Pride mass, a peaceful protest dubbed a “Rosary Rally” was organized to offer “reparation” for the church’s actions.

The White House held a pride event over the weekend that resulted in multiple controversies, such as flag replacement and at least one transgender influencer parading semi-nude on the lawn. Although the White House later criticized the influencer’s behavior, the situation represented how LGBTQIA+ rights have become the primary focus of the Biden administration.

The administration’s priorities have shifted from upholding American values to prioritizing LGBTQIA+ rights, which is concerning to conservative Catholics.
