Biden’s Classified Document Saga Takes a Comedic Turn with New Transcripts

A recent lawsuit has unveiled transcripts that add a dash of humor—if not irony—to the ongoing saga involving President Joe Biden and classified documents. The Heritage Foundation’s Oversight Project has taken the Justice Department to task, leading to the revelation that Biden and his ghostwriter essentially held a book club revolving around the very classified materials that Special Counsel Robert Hur has been investigating.

The Justice Department, often resembling a protective parent shielding their child from embarrassing details, has been less than forthcoming, insisting that issuing these transcripts would only serve to politicize an already sensitive situation. In a scenario reminiscent of every sitcom where the dad forgets his kids’ names, Biden has been described by Hur as a “well-meaning elderly man with a poor memory.” One can only imagine the ghostwriter, Mark Zwonitzer, scribbling notes like a frantic student trying to keep up with a lecture, hoping to clarify whether he was writing an autobiography or a memory care checklist.

The saga took an unexpected twist when the DOJ, previously claiming that no written documentation existed regarding Biden’s discussions with Zwonitzer, suddenly found itself admitting there are 117 pages of notes detailing exactly those conversations. The irony of having to admit that a record exists only after saying it didn’t is astonishing, leaving many to wonder why this administration insists on playing hide and seek with the truth.

Biden’s antics have sparked a back-and-forth between the Oversight Project and the DOJ, almost as entertaining as a game of political whack-a-mole. The claim of executive privilege, which Attorney General Merrick Garland invoked to defend withholding tapes of Biden’s interviews, has fallen flat. Former AG Mukasey stepped in to inform him that his reference to precedence in an executive privilege case was about as sturdy as a cardboard cutout of the president in a rainstorm.

The overall atmosphere surrounding this investigation illustrates a stunning double standard in how classified materials are handled based on one’s political affiliation. The public can’t help but recall the FBI’s dramatic raid on Mar-a-Lago in search of documents that Trump supposedly hoarded. Meanwhile, Biden’s classified stuff was chilling in his garage, not making nearly the same headlines. It’s hard not to chuckle when reflecting on the hapless administration’s attempts to navigate these revelations while painting Biden as just a forgetful grandpa rather than someone clasping a cache of sensitive documents.

Now, as the DOJ begins to sift through over 70 hours of tape—a task not unlike sorting socks from a laundry pile—the potential for absurdities to surface continues to loom large. With an investigation that started nearly a year ago now morphing into a scripted comedy of errors, one can only wonder what new revelations await in the continuing saga of Biden’s classified conundrum. It seems that the only thing more classified than the documents is the art of political accountability under this administration.
