So it’s been four days since President Joe Biden stumbled through a debate with former President Donald Trump, and surprise, surprise—new polling shows Americans’ confidence in the guy isn’t exactly soaring. Biden’s re-election campaign is tanking faster than the Titanic, and he’s losing support on major issues from key voting groups. Of course, this isn’t anything new for the current commander-in-chief.
Turns out Biden’s approval has slipped another 2 points, and his deficit with Trump has ballooned by 8 points, according to Democracy Corps. On issues like inflation and safety, Biden’s ratings have plummeted by 6 to 7 points. It’s almost like Americans could see through the smoke and mirrors this whole time.
The debate was Biden’s chance to boost his approval ratings, but it seems his performance only dug the hole deeper. His vote lead took an 8-point nosedive, particularly among Black and Hispanic voters, as well as those leaning toward third-party candidates. Maybe it’s because the debate was more like an awkward family dinner with a great uncle who’s lost the plot—confused, frail, and unable to string a coherent sentence together.
Voters aren’t just losing faith; they’re practically jumping ship. Concerns about Biden’s age and mental sharpness are hitting an all-time high. When people were asked for their overall impression, words like confused and frail came up more than a few times. It’s clear that there’s a significant doubt about his cognitive and physical fitness for the job, and that’s putting it kindly.

The biggest hits Biden took were on issues like border control, inflation, and public safety—you know, things voters actually care about. His performance on these topics saw declines starting at 5 points or more, and it’s obvious why. Meanwhile, CBS News’ latest poll shows nearly three-quarters of the electorate, including many Democrats, question Biden’s cognitive health and don’t think he should even be running.
Despite all this, Biden, with the enthusiastic backing of his wife Jill, seems determined to stay in the race. It’s a cozy setup when your spouse is also your biggest cheerleader and featured in fashion spreads, but the American people might be looking for more than a Vogue cover. The reality is, Biden vs. Trump isn’t just a contrast in policies—it’s cognitive clarity against cognitive decline.
