Bill Maher, the host of HBO’s “Real Time,” has been increasingly standing out as a voice of reason in Hollywood liberal circles. Amidst the excesses of his own camp, Maher has gained attention for calling out the more unreasonable elements within the liberal community.
In a recent podcast episode, Maher had a conversation with comedian Sandra Bernhard, during which she seemed to downplay the prevalence of anti-Semitism on the left. Maher, who is also Jewish, cautioned against dismissing the existence of anti-Semitism – particularly on the left, which he believes is even worse than on the right.

He pointed out that the left often views everything through a racial lens and fails to recognize the complexities of issues involving Israel and Palestine. Maher argued that there is anti-Semitism on both sides of the political spectrum, but the left-wing elite colleges tend to view the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in a simplistic manner, ignoring the broader historical and geopolitical context.
The interaction between Maher and Bernhard highlighted the divide within the Hollywood left, with Maher representing a more balanced and rational perspective, while many others seem to be disconnected from the prevalent anti-Semitic sentiments on their side.
