Chicago’s gun buyback program just proved what conservatives have been saying all along. These feel-good liberal schemes don’t work and actually make our streets more dangerous. A gun that was supposed to be destroyed by police ended up shooting an innocent woman and being used in multiple other crimes.
Here’s what really happened in this Democrat-run disaster. In December 2023, someone turned in a Glock pistol at a buyback event at St. Sabina Church. The gun was supposed to go straight to police and get destroyed forever. Instead, it disappeared right from inside the police station with cops everywhere watching.
Twanda Willingham paid the price for this government failure. She got shot with that very same stolen buyback gun in August 2023. The weapon then went on to be used in at least two more shootings before police finally found it. A 16-year-old kid was running around with it, pulling on car doors and terrorizing neighborhoods.
The cover-up makes this even worse. Someone deliberately hid the gun’s identification tag on a different weapon and threw the real tag in the trash. This wasn’t an accident or simple mistake. This was a calculated theft and cover-up happening right under the noses of Chicago’s finest.
This isn’t even the first time Chicago has botched a buyback program this badly. Back in 2006, another buyback gun showed up at a murder scene. These programs keep failing over and over, but liberal politicians keep throwing taxpayer money at them anyway.
While Chicago wastes millions on useless buyback theater, they’re also busy suing gun manufacturers like Glock. They’d rather blame a company than fix their own broken system. It’s easier to point fingers than admit their soft-on-crime policies don’t work.
This whole mess shows exactly why government can’t be trusted with our safety. They can’t even keep track of guns in their own police stations. How can they possibly keep criminals off our streets when they’re this incompetent with basic security?
Real crime fighting means going after repeat offenders and keeping dangerous criminals locked up. It means supporting police who actually do their jobs right. It doesn’t mean feel-good programs that put more guns in criminal hands while honest citizens get disarmed.
