Two innocent children are dead and seventeen others wounded after a deranged killer opened fire on kids praying in church. The monster targeted the most defenseless among us during Wednesday morning Mass at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis. An 8-year-old and 10-year-old lost their lives while sitting in church pews where they should have been safe.
The shooter has been identified as Robin Westman, a 23-year-old who once attended this very same Catholic school. Police say this twisted individual harbored deep hatred and was obsessed with other mass killers. The killer used three weapons including a rifle and shotgun to fire dozens of rounds through church windows before taking their own life.
This was a deliberate attack on Christian children and families. The shooting happened during Mass that marked the first week of school, when kids should have been excited about learning and growing. Instead, heroic teachers had to push children under pews to save their lives from flying bullets and broken glass.
What kind of sick society allows someone to legally buy multiple weapons and then use them to slaughter praying children? The killer purchased a rifle, shotgun and pistol recently and all were bought legally according to police. Our system failed these babies and their families in the worst possible way.
Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem rightfully called the shooter a deranged monster. She said this level of violence against Christians is unthinkable and our prayers are with these suffering families. We need leaders who will actually protect our children instead of making excuses.
The brave kids who survived this horror will carry these scars forever. Most of the injured were between 6 and 15 years old, just babies who will never feel completely safe again. Three elderly parishioners in their 80s were also wounded while trying to worship peacefully.
Police say the killer wanted to cause maximum carnage and terror for personal fame. This evil person studied other mass shooters and planned this attack to hurt as many innocent people as possible. We must never give these monsters the attention and notoriety they crave.
Medical officials are now asking Americans to donate blood to help save the wounded victims. These families need our prayers, our support and our action to make sure this never happens again. We owe it to these precious children to protect the next generation from such pure evil.
