Democrats just got a rude awakening when former President Bill Clinton sat for questioning in the Epstein probe and, by his own account, did not produce any evidence linking President Trump to criminal activity. House Oversight chair James Comer raced to the microphones after the deposition and declared that Clinton’s testimony effectively exonerated President Trump, handing Democrats a political and evidentiary setback they did not expect.
Chairman Comer’s office followed up with a blistering statement condemning Democrats for weaponizing the investigation and pointing out that Clinton’s answers provided no basis to tie Mr. Trump to Epstein’s crimes. Comer framed the moment as proof that Republicans have been right to demand documents and depositions, and he accused Democrats of manufacturing narratives from selective leaks rather than seeking truth.
Unsurprisingly, Democrats pushed back, accusing Comer of mischaracterizing Clinton’s remarks and insisting there are still unanswered questions about the former president’s associations and what he knew. But the pushback looks more like damage control than a factual rebuttal, because the clear political play here is to keep smearing President Trump even when sworn testimony fails to back the smear.
Make no mistake: this was historic — a former president compelled to answer questions in a congressional deposition — and the optics are changing the debate about who’s being targeted and why. Both Bill and Hillary Clinton sat with lawmakers under subpoena, and their appearances should have settled speculation instead of fueling endless media hysterics. Republicans rightly insisted on transparency and accountability, and the testimony made it harder for the left’s narrative to stick.
President Trump himself reacted by saying he’s been fully exonerated by the developing record, a position his supporters have been defending all along while the media ran with innuendo and selective leaks. Conservatives should celebrate moments when facts, documents, and sworn testimony undermine politically motivated attacks, and they should demand that the same standards be applied across the board.
Hardworking Americans deserve investigations that seek truth, not partisan theater designed to destroy reputations for political advantage. If Washington’s politicians want credibility, they should release all transcripts and videos, stop the selective outrage, and let the facts decide the story once and for all.
