Comey Indictment Shows DOJ’s True Colors: A Political Weapon

The recent indictment of former FBI Director James Comey has exposed a raw truth most Americans already suspected: the Department of Justice has been used as a political cudgel. President Trump publicly praised the charges and warned there could be more to come, a reaction that reflects years of partisan double standards from the left.

For conservatives, this moment is vindication of what commentators like Ben Shapiro have been saying for years — that Democrats quietly politicized the DOJ when it suited them, and now the chickens are coming home to roost. The difference today is that President Trump is unapologetically calling out that corruption in public, forcing the conversation into the daylight where it can no longer be swept under the rug.

That clarity makes the left’s outrage feel disingenuous. When a Justice Department acts like a partisan enforcement arm, it inevitably invites corrective action; what Republicans call accountability, Democrats label vengeance. The administration’s insistence on moving against those who weaponized institutions is being painted as dangerous only because it threatens the permanent political class.

Worse, the Biden-era culture of immunity for allies did real damage to public confidence, and the current White House has responded by trimming oversight bodies and replacing watchdogs, moves critics say undermine checks on power. The firing of at least 17 inspectors general earlier this year raised alarm bells about whether conservative calls for accountability will themselves be subject to independent review. Americans deserve a Justice Department that enforces the law equally, not one that shields the favored and hounds the dissident.

Predictably, the mainstream media and establishment legal class are shrieking about “weaponization” when the shoe is finally on the other foot, even as they cheered partisan probes and selective leaks not long ago. Their selective outrage only proves the point: there were two standards of justice familiar to power, and ordinary citizens paid the price. If exposing that hypocrisy makes a powerful few uncomfortable, so be it — republican virtue has always required hard reckonings.

Conservative readers should not be naive: defending equal justice is different from endorsing vendettas. The proper response is procedural — insist on transparent investigations, congressional oversight, and legal norms that bind everyone, including former and current officials. That means Republicans must press for due process while holding the so-called guardians of the republic to account for when they abandoned impartiality.

This moment is a test of whether America will return to the rule of law or descend into chaotic tit-for-tat prosecutions. Patriots who love this country should demand an impartial DOJ, not a partisan one, and should support leaders who are willing to clean house and restore fairness. The left weaponized institutions for too long; it’s time to restore them for the people.
