A conservative strategist recently confirmed what many on the right already suspected: the real problem with President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign is none other than Joe Biden himself. Neil Oxman, the strategist in question, did not mince words when speaking with Politico, bluntly stating that Democrats are not enthusiastic about Biden’s reelection prospects, period.
Despite Democrats’ apparent eagerness to secure wins in the Senate and House, Biden seems to be the weak link in their political chain. While other Democratic candidates are holding their own in various races, Biden is struggling to maintain a lead against former President Donald Trump. In fact, recent polls indicate that Trump is edging ahead of Biden by a slim margin, with one outlier showing a significant 9-point lead for Trump.

The apparent disconnect between Biden and the rest of the Democratic Party is striking. While Democrats are performing well in special elections and key battleground states, Biden’s approval ratings are tanking. According to Gallup, Biden is even more unpopular at this point in his presidency than both Trump and Obama were at the same stage. Key demographics that supported him in 2020, such as Black voters and young people, are now wavering in their support.
One possible explanation for Biden’s struggles, as posited by some sources cited by Politico, is his administration’s failure to effectively communicate its successes. However, this narrative conveniently sidesteps the underlying issue that Biden’s policies and actions may simply not be resonating with the American public. Republicans currently hold the upper hand on crucial issues such as the economy and immigration, further stacking the deck against Biden’s reelection bid.
As the 2022 midterm elections approach, it remains to be seen whether Biden can turn the tide and regain the trust and support of the electorate. For now, his lackluster performance in the polls serves as a stark reminder that even the most powerful office in the land is only as strong as the individual who occupies it.
