The city council of Corvallis, Oregon, has thrown caution—and sanity—to the wind by declaring itself a bastion of radical transgender ideology. This bold move defies a recent executive order from Donald Trump that aimed to place restrictions on the medical castration and grooming of minors. Rather than standing by common sense and the well-being of its youth, the counselors in this Oregon town have chosen to side with ideology over reality.
The resolution, which passed unanimously, is a masterclass in how to distort the truth while sounding oh-so-enlightened. The council essentially pledged to ignore federal directives that seek to protect vulnerable children from irreversible and dangerous “gender-affirming” surgeries and treatments. But why empower youth to make informed decisions when it’s far more fashionable to tilt at ideological windmills? Apparently, when it comes to political correctness, the mantra is “ideology over everything”—including the welfare of children.
Those who take the time to sift through the council’s resolution will find a treasure trove of woke jargon and empty statements. The council begins by referencing Trump’s executive order from January 2025, painting it as an oppressive attempt to deny medical treatment for youth. Apparently, the idea that several studies have linked such interventions to increased rates of anxiety and depression simply doesn’t fit the narrative the council members wish to convey. One can almost hear them gasping in horror at the idea of restricting the number of “genders” that can be listed on government forms.

Some might argue that this resolution is little more than a smokescreen; the council claims it is protecting marginalized communities from losing access to “necessary medical care and civil rights.” Irony abounds, as this phrasing translates to ensuring that minors can continue to undergo castration and mutilation sanctioned by the state, effectively overriding the rights of parents concerned for their children’s future.
The language gets even more colorful when they touch on the notion of “violence” against LGBTQ individuals, completely ignoring the issue of safety for wider communities. Instead, they hastily declare Corvallis a sanctuary for the so-called “trans, intersex, and gender diverse communities.” Meanwhile, anyone raising legitimate concerns about the dangers of these medical practices is branded as a bigot. So much for freedom of speech; apparently, the only acceptable opinion is that of leftist zealots.
In a desperate bid to undermine Trump’s policy agenda, radical Democrats are using Corvallis as a testing ground for their extreme views. As this town flaunts its commitment to reckless ideology, it’s time to reconsider whether taxpayer dollars should still flow to a community so determined to endanger its own children. After all, respecting the boundary between sanity and insanity has never looked so crucial.
