In a surprising turn of events, magician David Copperfield’s name has emerged in a newly released trove of documents related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. These documents have become central to the ongoing legal cases against Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell. Although it is important to note that the names listed in the documents do not necessarily represent a client list, they do raise questions about the connections between public figures and Epstein.

According to legal scholar Alan Dershowitz, who has previously represented Epstein and denied being a client himself, these documents effectively force public figures to explain their ties to Epstein. As of now, Copperfield has not issued any public statements regarding the mention of his name in the documents. However, according to Fox News, one of Epstein’s accusers, Johanna Sjoberg, stated in a deposition that she had met Copperfield.
Sjoberg recalled receiving a call inviting her to join a dinner at Epstein’s house where Copperfield was expected to be present. She waited at the house with another victim of Epstein and a young girl who appeared to be underage. When asked about the dinner, Sjoberg mentioned that Copperfield performed some magic tricks. She confirmed that Copperfield was a friend of Epstein’s and that he had questioned her about girls being paid to find other girls. However, she clarified that Copperfield did not provide any specifics regarding the ages of these girls.
It is important to note that these documents were part of a defamation lawsuit filed by Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre against Maxwell in 2015. Some names have been withheld upon objection. The newly released documents also mention prominent names such as Britain’s Prince Andrew, and former Presidents Bill Clinton and Donald Trump. U.S. District Judge Loretta Preska ordered the disclosure of these materials last month.
