His assessment is not soft talk from the right; it’s a clear-eyed take from someone who has watched Democratic elites excuse and rationalize excuses for violent actors instead of calling them what they are.
Anyone who still believes the mainstream narrative that this movement is purely about “occupation” should read what Hamas itself has laid out: the organization’s founding documents and repeated public slogans leave no room for a Jewish state between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean. That reality — that some Palestinian factions openly reject Israel’s existence and celebrate its destruction — is why reasonable people, including Epstein, treat calls for one-sided “peace deals” with deep suspicion.
The bloodshed of October 7, 2023 proved the stakes beyond any academic debate; Hamas terrorists massacred innocents, abducted civilians, and launched a coordinated campaign of brutality that made clear their contempt for peaceful coexistence. Too many on the left and in the pampered press still treat slogans like “from the river to the sea” as abstract sentimentalism rather than the genocidal demand it plainly is when used by jihadist groups and their cheerleaders. Turning a blind eye to that phrase and to the radical aims it expresses is not compassion; it is complicity — and it is a betrayal of the millions who want peace through strength and mutual recognition, not through surrender.
Epstein’s wider point — that our political class, especially the Democratic elite and the media, have become reflexively sympathetic to the wrong causes — rings true when they rush to moralize about Israeli defense while ignoring the ideology driving the violence. If our leaders and institutions insist on framing this as a symmetrical tragedy rather than confronting the murderous intent behind it, America will keep paying the price in blood and in a world that grows more hostile to liberty and our allies.
The path forward is simple and unapologetic: stand with Israel, demand real recognition of its right to exist, and refuse to reward or rehabilitate groups that openly celebrate its destruction. That means supporting policies that isolate terror sponsors, secure our borders against radicalization, and insist that any genuine peace be built on the foundation of mutual recognition and security — not on morally bankrupt concessions to those who chant for annihilation.
