In a comical twist that only the Democrats could conjure, Joe Biden’s bid for a second term has sparked anxiety among the party’s big-money donors. The grand plan, hatched in the foggy bowers of progressive strategy rooms, was to use Joe Biden’s presidency as a sort of presidential boot camp for Kamala Harris. But Biden, in a move shocking to absolutely no one who has observed his stubborn streak, has declared his intention to stay in the race, turning what was supposed to be a smooth succession into a full-blown panic among the Democratic elite.
Party donors, who probably see Biden’s tenure as Prime Minister of Gaffes, were banking on a one-term promise. As if orchestrating a baton pass that could make the Olympics proud, they expected Biden to hand off the presidency to Kamala Harris. Enter the dilemma: Biden’s declaration has thrown this plan into chaos, igniting a civil war of sorts between governors, congress members, and those ever-important megadonors.

The Democratic wrestling match has been painful to watch. Ever since Biden’s disastrous June 27 debate with Trump, the party has been in a tailspin. Reports of the confusion within the Democratic camp are as common as Kamala’s misguided word salad speeches. From donors revolting and staffers being blamed for Biden’s disastrous debate performance, to an astonishing level of denialism about the whole situation, the Democrats look like a party in freefall. An Obama-era fundraiser even went on Fox News to suggest that the expectation was Biden would do one term and skedaddle.
The story takes a riveting turn when recalling the expectation that Kamala Harris was the chosen one, destined to step into the role after Biden’s supposed one-term train ride. Of course, Democrats thought she’d magically transform into a presidential wizard during her tenure as VP. But that fantasy crumbled faster than Biden’s thoughts mid-speech. Democrats are now faced with the unsettling realization that Harris brings her own baggage, including a 2020 campaign so disastrous that Tom Steyer, a man with zero chances, outlasted her.
In his unyielding commitment to the race, Biden seems ready to bulldoze through any internal opposition, as if divine intervention would be required to stop him. Yet, the ongoing circus surrounding his mental sharpness leaves Democrats wringing their hands. Harris isn’t exactly the knight in shining armor to save this sinking ship, given her numerous cringe-worthy moments and an operational mess worthy of a reality TV show.
Ultimately, this spectacle has added yet another layer of drama to the ongoing Democratic meltdown. As the party scrambles post-debate, the only certainty is that the narrative promises still more chaos and comedic value for those on the right who are enjoying the show from the sidelines.
