Bob Menendez, the former Democratic senator from New Jersey, has had quite a whirlwind saga. Ironically, the same man who accused Trump of shady foreign dealings is now facing charges for accepting bribes from foreign entities. It’s a classic case of throwing stones from glass houses.
Instead of a pot of gold at the end of a political rainbow, Menendez ended up with gold bars in his pockets—quite literally. These bars, along with thousands of dollars, were allegedly given to him by businessmen connected to Egypt. This occurred while he was at the helm of the Foreign Relations Committee, overseeing foreign aid to Egypt. His pleas for clemency and cries of political payback won’t be likely get him off the hook any time soon. His former political pals, like Chuck Schumer, initially stated that Menendez had a right to due process. Even whispers of seeking clemency circled in the wind, but there is no evidence of him begging for a pardon from Donald Trump. The investigation and charges were brought by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York.
