Tulsi Gabbard’s confirmation hearing to become the Director of National Intelligence has been scheduled for January 30, but as is often the case with anything involving Senate Democrats, it seems a little too good to be true. Allegations of slow-walking the confirmation process by the FBI and the Democrats raise eyebrows and questions of whether Gabbard will face the same melodrama as many Trump appointees before her.
The scheduling of the hearing comes after troublesome reports indicating that the FBI’s background check on Gabbard has been taking longer than most drivers will take to get through an express lane at the DMV. Senate insiders noted that the investigation is nearing the maximum allowable time frame, as if the FBI is waiting for Gabbard’s application to fall out of a drawer back in the ‘90s. The Senate Intelligence Committee is expected to finally receive the dusty paperwork within 48 hours, but if history is any guide, Democrats may still try to delay things even more.

The gatekeeping does not stop there. If Senate Democrats, especially under the leadership of Sen. Mark Warner, do not expedite the hearing, Gabbard’s confirmation could be stuck in limbo long enough to raise suspicions that they’re hoping to logjam it all the way into the next month. Bringing Gabbard to a hearing next week and pushing her confirmation into February seems like an excellent opportunity for Democrats to turn the mundane into the absurd by dragging out the process with even more red tape.
Thanks to President Trump’s election victory, he picked Gabbard for the DNI position as he seeks to bring fresh faces to the intelligence community. However, the political left remains staunchly opposed to anyone associated with Trump, and Gabbard has been in their crosshairs for a while. Instead of voicing concerns regarding her qualifications, Democrats have resorted to wild accusations, labeling her as “compromised” and even suggesting she might be a “Russian asset.” These claims might as well come with a side of popcorn because it seems more like a scripted drama than legitimate politics.
The double standards in play are the icing on the cake. While Democrats have launched personal attacks on Gabbard for previously meeting with the Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad, it’s worth noting that their own party members, even prominent figures like Nancy Pelosi and John Kerry, have also had their friendly chats with the dictator. The hypocrisy among Democrats is staggering as they prepare to wield their obstructionist tactics against Gabbard while ignoring their own questionable interactions.
Expect plenty of theatrics and shenanigans in the coming days as Gabbard’s appointment continues to be a lightning rod for partisan conflict. The left will likely pull out all the stops to ensure that Gabbard’s ascent to leadership is met with friction rather than facilitate her rise based solely on her merits.
