Democrats are facing backlash for defending a violent MS-13 gang member while attacking common-sense immigration policies. Fox News host Jesse Watters exposed how liberal media outlets misleadingly portrayed an El Salvadoran gang leader as a harmless “Maryland dad” to block his deportation.
Gilberto Garcia, a high-ranking MS-13 member arrested in 2019, was involved in human trafficking and gang operations. Despite being labeled a “Maryland dad” by left-leaning outlets like The Atlantic, federal authorities confirmed Garcia’s terrorist ties. Homeland Security stated, “He should be locked up whether in El Salvador or a U.S. detention facility.” Watters slammed Democrats for twisting the narrative, asking, “Since when do we call foreign gang members ‘American dads’ just because they have kids?”
Conservatives pointed out the hypocrisy of comparing Garcia’s case to past policies. Former President Jimmy Carter deported hundreds of Iranians during the 1979 hostage crisis without accusations of racism. Yet today, Democrats claim enforcing immigration laws against violent criminals is discriminatory. Watters argued, “If deporting terrorists is racist, then Jimmy Carter was a racist dictator.”
The mainstream media faces criticism for amplifying activist lawyers who leak sob stories about criminals while ignoring victims like Laken Riley. Watters mocked outlets for prioritizing gang members’ “due process” over public safety, saying, “I’ve heard more about terrorists’ rights than murdered Americans.” Critics warn these tactics encourage more illegal immigration by painting cartel affiliates as misunderstood family men.
Republicans emphasize that MS-13 is officially designated a terrorist organization, meaning members don’t deserve special protections. The Trump administration’s border policies focused on deporting violent offenders to prevent future crimes. As Watters concluded, “You chose the gang life—you don’t get to demand sympathy when consequences arrive.”
Democrats’ continued defense of criminal immigrants risks alienating voters worried about open borders and rising crime. With immigration as a top election issue, conservatives vow to keep fighting for strict enforcement to protect American communities.
