The 2024 election may be a closed chapter, but for Democrats, it seems to be an open wound. The party’s refusal to move on from their electoral defeat illustrates exactly why they find themselves on the sidelines. With every overdramatic outcry, they manage to reinforce their own irrelevance in the political arena. Donald Trump’s recent pardons, which included 1,500 individuals associated with the January 6 protests, isn’t the scandal that the left is trying to sell. In fact, most conservatives expected this would happen. So why the performative outrage?
According to the left, Trump’s actions are akin to throwing fuel on the fire or, rather, dousing the flames of public trust, especially when pardoning individuals involved in serious offenses like assaulting police officers or seditious conspiracy. The implication here is that these pardons are a gross injustice to the Capitol Police officers who put their lives on the line during the events of January 6. However, it’s worth noting that the cries of betrayal from figures like Chuck Schumer seem rather selective, especially with the way the Biden administration has handled matters concerning his own family.
SCHUMER: "There's no other way to describe President Trump’s pardon of January 6th defenders than un-American.."
"It just is so cruel to the Sicknick family, who lost a police officer."

Schumer’s insistence that Trump’s pardons are “un-American” rings hollow when he sidesteps any criticism regarding Biden’s last-minute pardons for his family, which effectively throw the concept of rule of law out the window. Apparently, in Schumer’s world, it’s more valuable to craft future narratives rather than confront the present hypocrisy. This avoidance tactic is typical for many in the Democratic Party; after all, how can one own up to their own principles when they seem to shift at a moment’s notice?
The former president’s pardons are, in the eyes of his supporters, nothing compared to the optics of the Biden family’s escapade with preemptive pardons—especially when Schumer spent his time hammering home a previous statement calling any preemptive pardon from Trump a “gross abuse of the presidential pardon authority.” So, what’s changed, Chuck? It seems hypocrisy is just another tool in the Democrat toolkit.
The reality is that while Democrats cling to their narratives about law and order, their silence on Biden’s actions reveals a glaring double standard. Trump’s victories, both electorally and in the court of public opinion, are only exacerbated by the left’s infighting and moral posturing. As they continue to showcase their own contradictions, the conservative base gains more clarity on why Trump, and not some echo of the past, has captured the hearts and minds of American voters.
