The pageantry and protests had a festive tone in many places, but that didn’t stop critics from pointing to ugly signs and fringe actors trying to hijack the message. This is the same political class that applauds street fury one day and condemns it the next when it doesn’t suit their narrative.
While Democrats howl about “authoritarianism,” their leading mayoral hopefuls in New York are showing reckless judgment on the campaign trail — Zohran Mamdani was photographed arm-in-arm with Imam Siraj Wahhaj, a figure who was named an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center case. Wahhaj’s past associations and the conviction of his son on terrorism-related charges make this more than a mere photo-op; it raises real questions about Mamdani’s instincts and the company he keeps. For voters who care about safety and common sense, smiling beside a man linked in prosecutorial filings to the worst terror plot on U.S. soil is disqualifying.
It’s revealing how quickly the left’s outrage machine protects its own when convenient: Mamdani praises Wahhaj as a “pillar” of the community and the usual Democratic defenders either look away or offer weak excuses. Conservatives aren’t interested in cheap smear campaigns, but Americans remember history and the terrible price of being naïve about radicalism. Candidates who cozy up to controversial figures expose a dangerous blindness to threats that real people face on subway platforms and in our neighborhoods.
Patriotic voters should see this for what it is: a test of judgment and loyalty. If Democrats want to lecture the country about democracy while embracing the theater of No Kings and standing beside divisive, questionable allies, hardworking Americans will answer at the ballot box. We need leaders who defend law and order, common-sense security, and the Constitution — not politicians who pose for photo-ops with controversial clerics or lose their composure when citizens peacefully protest.
