Texas Democrats thought they were being clever when they ran away to Illinois and other blue states. They wanted to stop Republicans from drawing new congressional maps that reflect how much Texas has grown. But their childish stunt just gave Republicans more time to make even better maps that could win five more House seats for the GOP.
The Democrats finally came crawling back to Austin this week after hiding out for two weeks like scared children. They realized their tantrum was not working and that Texans were getting angry at their refusal to do their jobs. Now the Texas House has reached a quorum and Republicans are moving forward with the new maps.
Representative Briscoe Cain from the Texas House Freedom Caucus says the delay actually helped Republicans create stronger maps. While Democrats were playing games and wasting taxpayer money on their vacation, GOP lawmakers used the extra time to perfect their redistricting plan. The maps now moving through committee are even better for conservatives than the original proposal.
President Trump has been pushing hard for Texas Republicans to get this done right. He knows these five new Republican seats could be the difference between keeping or losing the House majority in 2026. Trump reminded everyone that he got the highest vote total in Texas history and that the state deserves proper representation that reflects its conservative values.
The new maps make perfect sense because Texas has changed dramatically since 2020. Millions of Americans have fled failing blue states like California and Illinois to escape high taxes and crime. These new Texans chose freedom over socialism, and the maps should reflect that reality.
Governor Greg Abbott called the special session to get this redistricting done despite Democrat obstruction. Abbott knows that Texas voters sent Republicans to Austin to govern, not to let a handful of liberal Democrats block important work. The governor has the backbone to stand up to these political games.
Democrats are now trying to claim they were standing up for democracy by running away from their duties. That is ridiculous liberal nonsense that insults the intelligence of Texas voters. Real democracy means showing up to work and letting the majority party that won elections actually govern.
The Texas House committee passed the new congressional maps out of committee Monday night, setting up a floor vote soon. Thanks to the Democrats wasting everyone’s time with their silly stunt, Republicans now have even stronger maps that will help elect more conservatives to Congress. Sometimes the best political strategy is just letting your opponents make fools of themselves.
