Well, well, well, would you look at that? Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has finally come to his senses and suspended his bid for the 2024 presidency. It’s as if someone waved a big old reality check right in front of his face. And honestly, it’s for the best. Because let’s be real here, folks. DeSantis would’ve been in for a world of embarrassment in primaries like New Hampshire and South Carolina, where Trump is set to dominate. And poor ol’ Nikki Haley would’ve been left in the dust, trailing behind like a lost puppy.

But here’s the kicker, folks. DeSantis didn’t just give up on his presidential dream. Oh no, he actually had the audacity to endorse Trump himself! Talk about being consistent. I mean, sure, he may have had a few critiques during Trump’s time in office, but it turns out his real fire was aimed at Haley. And boy, did he score some major points against her in the debates. Gotta give credit where credit’s due, folks. DeSantis knew how to expose her flaws as a candidate.
Now, I never really thought DeSantis was cut out for the 2024 race, and I guess I’ve been proven right once again. From his lackluster start to his initial lack of fight, it was clear that his heart just wasn’t in it. I mean, let’s face it, folks. He was probably pushed into this whole thing by monied donors and well-meaning friends. But with Trump’s legal troubles looming, it was only a matter of time before DeSantis realized it wasn’t worth the risk.
And let me tell you, launching his campaign on Twitter using some fancy platform called Twitter Spaces? Come on now, DeSantis. Is that the best you could do? Presidential campaigns are supposed to start with a bang, with energy and excitement. But launching on Twitter/X? That’s about as inspiring as watching paint dry. We’re a visual culture, folks, and half the people on Twitter/X are just politicos, journalists, and influencers. Where’s the average Joe and Jane in all of this? TikTok has taken over, my friends.
But that’s not the only misstep he made. DeSantis decided to ghettoize his campaign, sticking only to conservative outlets and shutting out the legacy media. Now, I get it. Sparring with the so-called “fake news” is when DeSantis is at his best. He knows how to expose their hypocrisy and stand up for his policies. But guess what? By doing that, he missed out on the opportunity to reach a wider audience. He should’ve been blanketing the media, making his case to everyone, whether they agreed with him or not. It’s a missed opportunity, folks.
And let’s not forget about DeSantis’ physical tics. The head bobbing, the hesitant smile, the stiffness. They were all there, plain for everyone to see. Now, I’m not saying he didn’t improve over time, but his campaign should’ve done some serious image preparation before he announced his presidential bid. There’s plenty of footage out there to work with, for goodness sake! And the one place where he did shine? His debate with Governor Gavin Newsom. That’s when DeSantis looked confident, in charge, and ready to take on any challenge. We should’ve seen more of that throughout the campaign.
And don’t even get me started on DeSantis’ online surrogates. Between their ad hominem attacks, demented cheerleading, and inability to articulate or defend his policies, they just made him look bad. I mean, if I didn’t know anything about DeSantis except for how these supposed influencers acted, I wouldn’t have given him the time of day. It was crass, inarticulate, and downright tacky. But hey, at least it gave us a good laugh.
So there you have it, folks. DeSantis had his shot, but in the end, he couldn’t cut it. Maybe he’ll come back stronger in 2028, but for now, it’s back to being a great governor for the people of Florida. And hey, at least he saved himself from an embarrassing defeat. Gotta give the man some credit for that.
