Florida Governor Ron DeSantis had an interview with Maria Bartiromo, and it seemed like smooth sailing until she brought up the elephant in the room – his disappointing performance in the polls compared to former President Donald Trump. Bartiromo referred to an article that mentioned a comment from a DeSantis supporter admitting they were “way behind” in the polls. Ouch!

Bartiromo wasted no time asking, “What’s going on with your campaign?” She even called it a “failure to launch” – talk about brutal honesty! She wanted to know why the optimism surrounding DeSantis’s potential presidential run earlier this year seems to have fizzled out. What went wrong?
Bartiromo: I’m wondering what’s going on with your campaign… What happened?

DeSantis, being the witty guy he is, laughed it off and called these claims “narratives” pushed by the biased media. He made it clear that they don’t want him to be the nominee because they know he’d beat Biden and actually follow through on his promises. Can you blame them? They’re scared of his effectiveness!
Even Fox, which has generally been supportive of DeSantis, couldn’t help but discuss this “failure to launch” issue. Mark Simone and Kellyanne Conway, who appeared on a panel, offered their thoughts on the matter. Simone, while admiring DeSantis, suggested that he’s simply not ready for a national campaign and should wait until he’s in his 50s. Conway echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that DeSantis has a massive job to handle as governor of Florida.
Now, let’s address the biggest concern here – the polls. Bartiromo mentioned a Fox poll that showed DeSantis trailing Trump by a whopping 34 points. If DeSantis wants to secure the nomination, he needs to figure out how to surpass the Trump juggernaut. Selling himself as the guy who can beat Biden is all well and good, but if he can’t even get past Trump, he won’t even make it to the main event against Biden. It’s a tough spot to be in, unless something dramatic happens, like a new legal issue for Trump. But hey, anything’s possible, right?
Part of DeSantis’s problem is that people already know Trump and appreciate his policies, especially considering the disaster that is the Biden administration. DeSantis has a lot to overcome in that regard. Additionally, there’s a “rally round” effect where Trump’s popularity among the Republican base increases every time the Democrats try to take him down with hoaxes and indictments. It’s like a never-ending saga.
To make matters worse, the polls aren’t on DeSantis’s side when it comes to his claim of having a better chance against Biden. Another poll by Echelon Insights shows Trump leading Biden in swing states by eight points. Ouch again.
So, it seems like some of the big shots who were banking on DeSantis as the Trump 2.0 without all the baggage might be getting a little nervous. The polls aren’t helping their confidence. But hey, it’s still early, and anything can change. Maybe DeSantis will have a breakthrough during the debates. We’ll just have to wait and see.
In the meantime, DeSantis has proven time and time again that he is a strong leader who gets things done. He has the support of his state and connects with people on a personal level. Just look at his recent appearance at a UFC event – he knows how to resonate with the people. So, don’t count him out just yet. There’s a reason the media is trying to downplay his potential – they’re scared of what he can accomplish. Let’s give DeSantis the time and opportunity he deserves.
