As Florida Governor Ron DeSantis tries to become the Republican candidate for the 2024 presidential election, he is facing a tough battle. He currently leads Donald Trump in the polls. The former president refused to commit to supporting the eventual nominee, which makes him vulnerable to attacks.
Scott Jennings, who used to be a political adviser for former President George HW Bush and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, advised that DeSantis should prepare for attacks from other candidates due to Trump's absence. He noted that Chris Christie, the former New Jersey governor, is trying to get rid of him.
According to Jennings, a lot of the things that voters have heard about the candidate have been influenced by Trump and the media. This is why $20 million has been allocated for attack ads against him. In recent weeks, Chris Christie, who is campaigning for DeSantis in Florida, suggested that the governor should drop out of his race if he doesn't support Trump during the upcoming debate.
The other candidates will try to take down DeSantis, who is the only non-Trump candidate in the race. He'll be facing a barrage of attacks during the debate, and it will be very difficult for him to emerge as the winner.
Besides Trump, DeSantis, and Christie, there are other prominent candidates such as Mike Pence, Asa Hutchinson, and Nikki Haley. Some of them have also signed the loyalty pledge, though only Ramaswamy, DeSantis, and Burgum have qualified for the debate.
To be eligible to participate in the debate, the candidates must have at least a 1% lead in the polls and raise at least 40,000 contributions. The deadline for qualifying is Monday. Let the action begin.
