Disney Under Fire for Woke ‘Snow White’ Remake Rewrite

Disney’s live-action remake of Snow White has stirred significant controversy, drawing sharp criticism from conservative commentators like Ben Shapiro and Michael Knowles. The film, released March 21, 2025, faced backlash over its casting choices, political messaging, and deviations from the original story. Rachel Zegler’s portrayal of Snow White sparked accusations of forced diversity, with critics arguing her Latina heritage contradicted the character’s traditional “skin as white as snow” description. Actor Peter Dinklage (who has dwarfism) condemned Disney’s “hypocrisy” for modernizing Snow White’s ethnicity while retaining the “backward” dwarfs storyline, prompting the studio to replace the seven dwarfs with CGI-augmented actors.

David Hale Hand, son of the original film’s supervising director, blasted the remake as a “disgrace” that prioritizes “woke” revisions over respect for the 1937 classic. Conservative outlet The Daily Wire even announced plans for its own Snow White adaptation, emphasizing “timeless values” over Disney’s “destructive” progressive themes.

Zegler’s dismissive comments about the original film—calling its love story “creepy” and “stalker-ish”—further alienated traditionalists. Disney’s decision to downsize the film’s premiere and limit media access signaled weak confidence in its reception, with critics panning the CGI dwarfs as “baffling” and disconnected from the story’s magic.

While the remake includes new musical numbers and lavish visuals, its attempts to “correct” the original’s perceived flaws have left many conservative viewers questioning Disney’s priorities. As Shapiro and Knowles noted, the film exemplifies Hollywood’s trend of prioritizing political messaging over storytelling, alienating audiences who cherish classic narratives.
