The Department of Justice is finally doing its job and throwing the book at the suspected bombers who tried to bring chaos to Gracie Mansion—the mayor’s mansion in New York City. It’s about time America sees real consequences for acts that threaten not only our property, but the very heart of our civic life. For once, it doesn’t look like the left can sweep this under the rug or use political games to excuse the madness.
On Saturday, while ordinary New Yorkers just wanted to go about their lives, the city was faced with protests that turned ugly over Iran and this so-called “Operation Epic Fury.” Instead of a peaceful demonstration, two radicals cooked up something far more dangerous: a bomb attack, right at the home of NYC’s top official. Liberals always claim they stand for democracy and peace, but look at what happens when their crowd is unhappy—the streets become a playground for extremists.

It’s no secret that progressive policies have made cities soft on crime. Ask anyone walking the streets today—violent criminals get nothing but a slap on the wrist, if that. But the DOJ is under pressure with a case of this high profile. These suspects are being charged hard, and Americans should demand nothing less. Playing nice sends a signal that violence is tolerated, and that’s exactly what radical agitators want.
Let’s call it what it is—a product of years of left-wing coddling, anti-cop rhetoric, and a culture that blames America for every problem under the sun. Now bleeding-heart activists will probably insist we feel sorry for the would-be bombers. Don’t fall for it. Real justice means protecting innocent citizens, not worrying about the tender feelings of criminals who try to blow up our leaders’ homes.
If this latest attack doesn’t wake up Democrat-run cities to the dangers of weakness, what will? New York City deserves better. Americans deserve leaders who crack down, not cave in. One has to wonder—how many more warnings does the left need before they stop putting their agenda ahead of our safety?
