Just when the Republican primary voters are gearing up to hit the polls, news comes out that E. Jean Carroll’s defamation trial against Donald Trump will proceed. U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan has set a date of January 15th, 2024 for the civil trial to begin. Carroll alleges that Trump made defamatory statements about her following a court decision awarding her $5 million in civil damages over a disputed sexual harassment case against him.

This latest legal development for President Trump is putting pressure on his attorneys to reach an out-of-court settlement with the plaintiff. No one wants negative publicity as it could impact the President’s performance in early-voting states.
The origin of Carroll’s latest lawsuit stems from President Trump’s comments in 2019 claiming her allegation of rape was false. During the proceeding, Judge Kaplan allowed Carroll to include statements made by President Trump during his CNN town hall in which he denied knowing about her and referred to her as a “whack job.”
Of course, Trump’s attorney is maintaining that she should not be permitted to retroactively change her legal theory to avoid adverse findings against her. Seems like a fair argument to us.
Carroll’s civil case against Trump will now run alongside the two criminal cases alleging wrongdoing by the former president during his campaign and following his time in office. On Tuesday, he was arraigned in Miami on 37 counts of mishandling classified documents and obstruction of justice. Just a few months ago, he was also indicted on state charges by Democratic Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
President Trump is keeping his head up, vehemently maintaining his innocence on all counts in all cases. During a speech in Miami, he protested the “witch hunt” against him and criticized Democrats for rallying behind a weak incumbent who remains vulnerable according to recent polls.
It’s clear that this is all just another example of the left’s relentless pursuit to take down a great President. It’s time for conservatives to stand up and fight back against these baseless allegations.
