Just weeks after fleeing to the U.K. following Donald Trump’s triumphant return to the political arena, DeGeneres’ new mansion in the picturesque Cotswolds has turned into an unintentional swimming pool, courtesy of some rather dramatic weather.
It’s reported that the Cotswolds mansion, which was acquired with millions of pounds—yes, pounds, not dollars—has been submerged under several feet of water thanks to the River Thames overflowing after a torrential onslaught from Storm Bert. Roads in the area have become impassable, and some residents are reportedly trapped in their own homes, far removed from the glamorous life DeGeneres and wife Portia de Rossi likely envisioned while packing their bags full of California sunshine.

Coinciding with Trump’s monumental victory over Vice President Kamala Harris, this flood serves as a rather poetic representation of the liberal elite’s escape plan. Sources have claimed that the couple decided to “get the hell out” of the U.S. in response to the election results, with California’s ongoing political circus proving too much to handle. They even put their Montecito mansion on the market, perhaps hoping their fortunes would fare better across the pond.
While leaving the country might seem like a smart idea for those a bit rattled by the current political climate, DeGeneres appears to be seeking a fresh start that may never quite materialize. Her abrupt exit follows serious career challenges, after losing the public love she once basked in due to accusations of running a rather toxic workplace environment on her show. Apparently, it takes a lot more than a million-dollar mansion to escape the fallout of poor public relations.
The Cotswolds is home to several celebrities, one of whom may or may not be eyeing a boat rental for the foreseeable future. New neighbors include David and Victoria Beckham and Kate Moss, who are likely gearing up for a wet and wild welcome party. Ellen and Portia may find that the grass isn’t always greener—or, in this case, drier—on the other side, especially when trying to dodge the fallout of their past. The silver lining?
