EU Rejects US Beef Based on Dubious Science, Hurts Farmers

Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins recently took the European Union to task for its apparent dependency on “fake science” to keep American beef off its grocery store shelves, an action that is more detrimental to American farmers and ranchers than a bull in a china shop. It seems the EU has decided that their food police regulations are more trustworthy than actual research, creating a sizable trade imbalance that even President Trump can’t ignore with his latest tariff maneuvers.

According to Rollins, the issue isn’t just the hefty tariffs Europeans have slapped on U.S. beef; it’s the insidious way they treat American agricultural products like they’re some kind of toxic waste. It’s almost as if they think their “studies” about hormone-treated meat hold more water than the juicy steaks straight from the heartland. Not only does this move undermine American farmers, but it also sends a message that the EU would rather believe questionable research than enjoy the world’s safest and highest-quality food.

Rollins pointed out another slap in the face of American exporters: the United States can’t get its corn into Mexico or dairy into Canada—countries that should be chomping at the bit for quality American goods. In a twist that boggles the mind, Honduras buys more pork and poultry than all of the EU combined. So while the EU plays puppet to dubious science, American farmers are left scratching their heads, wondering who exactly is calling the shots on the international dinner table.

The EU’s ban on hormone-treated meat is at the center of this trade spat. They claim that their research shows potential health risks from consuming this type of meat, but one has to wonder if they’re just looking for an excuse to keep American agricultural products out of their markets. Rollins didn’t mince words when she called out the ludicrousness of the EU’s stance, making it clear that the evidence supporting their claims barely holds any credibility.

In a world where American farmers produce some of the safest and most secure food products, the EU’s tactics come across as nothing short of absurd. It’s like they’re saying “no thanks” to the best beef money can buy, all in the name of baseless claims. America’s agricultural community deserves better than to be treated as a second-class producer on the global stage, and Rollins made it clear that this charade needs to come to an end sooner rather than later.
