Ex-Adviser to DC Mayor Faces More Sexual Harassment Claims

Former top adviser to Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser, John Falcicchio, faces allegations of "unwanted sexual advances" toward a female staffer, according to an independent investigation's findings. This revelation follows accusations of sexual harassment by two other female employees, which led to Falcicchio's resignation 14 months ago. The investigation, conducted by the law firm Arnold & Porter, also uncovered a "consensual romantic relationship" between Falcicchio and a fourth staffer.

The report indicated that while there was no evidence of Falcicchio leveraging his position to hire or promote individuals based on his sexual attraction, he did display favoritism towards certain staffers. This behavior contributed to workplace tension and disputes among his subordinates. Mayor Bowser reportedly expressed shock and dismay upon learning of the allegations.

Two women who accused Falcicchio reached settlements with the city last week, with one of them reportedly receiving a cash payment ranging from $300,000 to $500,000. Attorneys for one of the women expressed disappointment and anger over the release of the confidential report, stressing the importance of increased transparency and accountability in such investigations.

The report also included seven recommendations aimed at preventing sexual harassment, including the establishment of an anonymous complaint hotline for government employees. These findings underscore the necessity for enhanced measures to address and prevent such misconduct in the workplace.
