As the partial government shutdown drags on, former DHS senior adviser Charles Marino sounded an alarm on Fox Report that every patriotic American should hear: radicalization and terror threats aren’t distant problems — they’re alive and well inside our own borders. Marino warned that federal agencies are tracking a range of domestic threats and sleeper cells even as funding fights leave critical homeland security work hamstrung.
Marino’s warnings carry weight because he isn’t a pundit — he’s a career law-enforcement professional who served as a Supervisory Special Agent with the Secret Service and as Senior Law Enforcement Advisor to DHS, where he helped implement the National Terrorism Advisory System and the “If You See Something, Say Something” campaign. Americans should take seriously what someone with his background says about risk and readiness.
This is not paranoia — it’s common sense. Federal authorities have reportedly been monitoring possible terrorism links in recent violent incidents, including investigations into a deadly Texas bar shooting, while budget stalemates out in Washington threaten the very operations meant to keep us safe. The idea that politicians can play chicken with homeland security funding while Americans go about their daily lives is nothing short of reckless.
Make no mistake: policy choices matter. Marino and others who study border and homeland security have repeatedly pointed out that porous borders and chaotic immigration policies make America more vulnerable to bad actors crossing into our communities. Conservatives aren’t demanding panic — we’re demanding competence, accountability, and the common-sense funding decisions that let professionals do their jobs.
It’s telling that commentary and reporting across networks show federal officials scrambling to trace radicalization pathways while Capitol Hill squabbles. This is Washington’s failure, not the fault of the men and women on the front lines who face real threats every day; Congress must stop using security funding as a bargaining chip and start prioritizing the safety of ordinary Americans.
Patriots should demand clarity and action: secure the border, fund DHS fully, restore robust intelligence and local law-enforcement partnerships, and hold accountable any official whose negligence makes our communities less safe. The choice is simple — empower those sworn to protect us and defend the homeland, or tolerate a dangerous drift that leaves our children and neighborhoods exposed.
