Former President Donald Trump has revealed that Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco is the one actually calling the shots at the Department of Justice (DOJ), not Attorney General Merrick Garland. In an exclusive interview with Breitbart News, Trump expressed his belief that Monaco is running the Justice Department in a vicious and illegal manner. He also predicted that her actions would be exposed over the next year and a half. Trump pointed out that Monaco has a close relationship with Andrew Weissman, who was involved in the Robert Mueller investigation, and suggested that Weissman is her boss. Trump accused Weissman and others of suffering from “Trump Derangement Syndrome” and emphasized that they have been trying to come after him for years without success.

Monaco, who previously served in the Obama White House as a Homeland Security adviser, has been the subject of scrutiny among Republicans. Many believe that she plays a much larger role in DOJ decision-making than is apparent. Garland, on the other hand, was appointed by Biden after Senate Republicans refused to confirm him as a Supreme Court justice candidate during the Obama administration. Garland’s time as attorney general has been marked by controversy, particularly regarding his handling of investigations into Trump. After the controversial FBI raid at Mar-a-Lago, Garland publicly acknowledged that he personally authorized it. Monaco, however, has defended the Justice Department against Trump’s allegations of politicization and weaponization.
Various congressional committees have been investigating Monaco’s role in the DOJ and the politicized nature of law enforcement. Rep. Jim Jordan sought a congressional briefing from her on Special Counsel John Durham’s findings regarding the FBI’s targeting of Trump. As documents and testimony are uncovered, Monaco’s decision-making is likely to be more closely examined. The question of whether Garland is truly in charge at the DOJ could become a central focus of the 2024 presidential campaign if Trump secures the GOP nomination.
