In a shocking move, the head of the House Oversight Committee, James Comer (R-KY), is threatening to charge FBI Director Christopher Wray with contempt of Congress if the department continues to ignore a subpoena from Congress. But the FBI has refused to give out a paper that has information about a plan to bribe a foreign official by President Biden. People have said that the FBI is trying to protect Hunter Biden, the son of the Vice President, and his business deals.

On May 3, Comer sent out a subpoena for the public record. But on May 10, the FBI refused to hand over the document, claiming DOJ rules about ‘confidential human sources.’ Even though the FBI briefed Comer on Monday, they still wouldn’t give him the paper, which made the chair of the Oversight Committee very angry.

On Wednesday, Comer said that if the FBI continues to ignore the subpoena, Wray could be charged with contempt of Congress by the House Oversight and Accountability Committee. “FBI Director Wray is ignoring a congressional subpoena for an unclassified record that says then-VP Joe Biden and a foreign national were involved in a criminal plot,” tweeted Comer.
The FBI, on the other hand, has stayed firm and has refused to follow the order. Christopher Dunham, the FBI’s Acting Assistant Director for Congressional Affairs, wrote in a letter that “it is critical to the integrity of the entire criminal justice process and to the performance of our law enforcement duties that FBI avoid revealing information, even if it isn’t true or complete, that could hurt investigations, hurt prosecutions or court cases, unfairly violate privacy or reputational interests, or give the public the wrong idea.”
It’s clear that FBI leaders did everything they could to stop justice from happening and stop Congress from finding out the truth. The White House has said many times that President Biden never talked to his son Hunter about his business deals and that he had nothing to do with them. This cover-up by the FBI makes it look like the Biden government is even more corrupt than it already was.
Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA), who asked for the paper in a letter, and Comer both said that the FBI was protecting Hunter Biden. In a statement to Fox News, Grassley said that the FBI has “continued to tie itself in knots to ignore a legitimate subpoena from Congress” and that “the Bureau has developed a serious reputation problem through its string of failures and overreach, and leadership is doing it no favors by trying to stiff-arm Congress.”
This month, the Oversight Committee has met twice at the FBI offices. But there was only one important thing said about the warrant. The FBI’s gamesmanship in not answering the Committee’s demand for the specific FD-1023 form is not acceptable, and the bureau’s behavior has been called “obstructionist.”
Comer says he will stand up to the FBI’s stubbornness and bring the criminals to justice. The FBI needs to stop playing games with Congress and respond to the subpoena. The American people have a right to know the truth, and if it turns out that the FBI interfered with an important national security investigation, they should be held accountable.
