Republicans on the committee point to disturbing revelations that the FBI analyzed tolling data and phone records tied to multiple Republican senators during an operation nicknamed Arctic Frost, a move Jordan argues reads like a fishing expedition against political opponents. That disclosure has Republicans saying the Justice Department crossed a bright line by treating elected lawmakers like targets instead of protecting their constitutional duties.
The committee also exposed that several prosecutors who worked under Smith have refused to cooperate, invoking their Fifth Amendment rights dozens of times when questioned about whether members of Congress were swept up in the probe.
