The memo, reportedly dated to early February 2026, jolted officials into reviewing worst-case scenarios and reminded Americans that the threats we face are real even when the details are sketchy.
Yet federal and local sources have been quick to tell the public there is no specific or credible information pointing to an imminent strike against California, and law enforcement officials describe the bulletin as cautionary rather than evidentiary. That split between a sober warning and a public dismissal should make every patriot ask why the intelligence community can’t be both transparent and decisive when lives might be at stake.
Governor Gavin Newsom has said state officials have been briefed and that there is no immediate danger, while urging a posture of preparedness that anyone who loves their family should applaud. Citizens deserve the reassurance—but they also deserve clarity about what “no imminent threat” actually means in concrete terms and what steps are being taken to secure our coastlines and critical infrastructure.
The FBI itself acknowledged it had no additional information on timing, targets, method, or perpetrators, a hedge that should worry Americans more than it comforts them; uncertainty is no excuse for complacency. Washington’s habit of issuing vague alerts and then washing its hands of responsibility must stop—our communities depend on action, not PR language.
Intelligence officials have also warned that Iran has extended relationships and influence in the Western Hemisphere that could be exploited to stage deniable attacks, which makes the suggestion of ship-launched drones from the Pacific a scenario worth taking seriously.
