Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA), the self-proclaimed champion of justice and morality, has once again taken aim at his criminally indicted colleague, Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ). Fetterman, known for his incessant trolling and demands for Menendez’s resignation, has now gone so far as to endorse a potential primary challenger against the seasoned incumbent. It seems Fetterman’s antipathy towards Menendez knows no bounds.
According to The Hill, Fetterman has extended his support to Rep. Andy Kim (D-NJ), should Menendez decide to run for re-election. The brazen move comes as no surprise, given Fetterman’s unabated crusade to oust Menendez from the Senate seat he apparently “disgraces.” In an interview, Fetterman expressed his enthusiasm for Kim’s potential candidacy, stating that “anything would be an upgrade over Menendez.” Well, isn’t Fetterman just a beacon of impartiality?

Fetterman’s motives become clearer when we examine his reservations about another major candidate vying to replace Menendez. Fetterman is apparently skeptical of New Jersey’s first lady, Tammy Murphy, who happens to be the wife of the Democratic governor. It seems Fetterman is concerned that Murphy’s previous party affiliation as a Republican might render her unreliable in delivering a solid Democratic vote. How noble of Fetterman to ensure the Senate remains a monolithic Democratic stronghold.
In a not-so-subtle jab at Menendez, Fetterman pointed out that Rep. Kim is a man of integrity, unlikely to be caught with “gold bars underneath his mattress” or accused of being a foreign agent. The irony here is palpable, as Menendez faces bribery allegations involving cash and gold bars from foreign nations like Egypt and Qatar. Fetterman’s endorsement of Kim is clearly an attempt to distance himself from the corrupt shadow looming over Menendez and his dubious associations.
But Fetterman doesn’t stop there. He takes to social media to further ignite the flames of his rivalry with Menendez. In a post, he proudly endorses Kim, deeming Menendez “Bobby Gold Bars” and signaling his disdain for the indicted senator. How mature, Senator Fetterman. How absolutely grown-up.
It’s worth noting that Murphy has garnered her fair share of endorsements, with establishment figures and influential Democratic institutions backing her campaign. Yet, polls indicate that Kim, the fortunate beneficiary of Fetterman’s support, holds a substantial lead over the governor’s wife. It seems Fetterman’s endorsement carries weight in the world of politics. Who would’ve thought?
In the end, Fetterman’s outspoken opposition to Menendez is no surprise. His partisan maneuvering and self-proclaimed moral high ground only serve to further divide our already highly polarized political landscape. But hey, at least Fetterman finds comfort in endorsing someone he deems “decent.” Perhaps one day, in Fetterman’s ideal world, decency will outweigh experience, honor, and actual accomplishments. Until then, we can only hope that voters see through his partisan antics and choose wisely in the upcoming election.
