Another terrible tragedy has struck one of our military bases today. Five brave soldiers were shot and wounded at Fort Stewart in Georgia during an active shooter incident. The attack happened in the morning at the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team area. Thank God the shooter has been caught and is now in custody.
The entire base went into lockdown at 11:04 this morning. Soldiers were told to stay inside and lock all doors and windows immediately. This is exactly the right response when our warriors face this kind of danger. Every second counts in these situations.
Our law enforcement and military police responded quickly and professionally. They got the shooter off the streets and made sure no more harm could come to our troops. This is why we back the blue and support our military security forces. They put their lives on the line every single day.
This attack raises serious questions about security at our military installations. Our soldiers should feel safe when they are serving on American soil. We need to make sure our bases have the protection they deserve. These attacks cannot keep happening to our military families.
