Get ready to put on your cowboy boots and jump on the conservative bandwagon, because in a bold move, Republican lawmakers in the peachy state of Georgia are making moves to show some tough love to those who dare to defy the big dogs at Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Yeehaw!
Now, what’s got these lawmakers all riled up? Well, it seems that after the tragic murder of a promising young nursing student, Laken Riley, allegedly at the hands of an illegal immigrant from Venezuela, the grand ol’ party decided enough is enough. Jose Antonio Ibarra, the suspect in this heinous crime, had the audacity to cross the border like it was a walk in the park. But not on Georgia’s watch, partner!

The revamped bill, HB 1105, is aiming to make sure that sheriffs and jailers down south play nice with ICE. If these local law enforcers don’t pick up the phone and call up the feds when they catch wind of an illegal immigrant in their midst, well, they better be ready to face the music. And by music, we mean losing out on some sweet funding or maybe even facing criminal charges. It’s like a game of “Simon says,” but instead of Simon, it’s ICE calling the shots.
This ain’t Georgia’s first rodeo with cracking down on illegal immigration. They’re taking a page out of Texas’ book with provisions similar to good ol’ SB4, signed into law by none other than Gov. Greg Abbott. That’s right, folks, keep ’em on their toes and make sure those law enforcement folks have the power to wrangle up those sneaky trespassers.
And let’s not forget the icing on the cake – the Biden administration is getting a good ol’ southern tongue lashing from Gov. Brian Kemp. He’s not mincing words, folks. Riley’s tragic death only proves what we all know deep down – every state is a border state when our borders are as leaky as a sieve. So buckle up, buttercups, ’cause Georgia ain’t playing around when it comes to keeping its backyard safe and sound.
