GOP Lawmakers Target NEA’s Charter: Education Over Politics

Republican lawmakers are pushing to take away the National Education Association’s special federal charter. They say the big teachers union cares more about pushing political ideas than helping kids learn. Erika Donalds, a strong voice for conservative education change, supports this move to hold the NEA accountable.

GOP leaders like Rep. Mark Harris and Sen. Marsha Blackburn plan to introduce a bill called the National Education Association Charter Repeal Act. This would revoke the NEA’s federal charter. They argue the union has become a partisan group focused on politics, not students or teachers. Harris slammed the NEA for calling President Trump a fascist and pushing divisive ideologies instead of education.

The NEA’s own convention resolutions show where their priorities lie. They passed measures attacking President Trump and his policies, even misspelling “fascism” in one resolution. Another resolution wrongly claimed efforts to eliminate the Department of Education were racist. These actions prove the union puts politics above teaching our children.

Erika Donalds, head of education policy at the America First Policy Institute, backs removing the NEA’s charter. She’s fought for years to get government out of classrooms. Donalds believes federal mandates waste time and money that should go toward helping students learn instead of filling out paperwork.

During her time on a Florida school board, Donalds saw firsthand how federal rules hurt local schools. She even suggested refusing federal money to escape the red tape. Now she works to dismantle the Department of Education completely, saying parents and teachers know best how to run schools, not distant bureaucrats.

President Trump supports this push for education freedom. He signed executive orders to expand school choice and stop indoctrination in classrooms. Teachers unions like the AFT oppose these moves, calling them illegal schemes. But conservative leaders know school choice puts power back in parents’ hands.

The NEA has lost its way, focusing on radical politics instead of reading and math. It’s time to take away their special status. Parents and local communities should control education, not union bosses pushing agendas that harm children.

Erika Donalds and other patriots are leading the charge to fix our schools. Their goal is simple: let parents choose the best education for their kids without government or unions getting in the way. America’s children deserve real learning, not political preaching.
