House Republicans have forwarded criminal referrals for James and Hunter Biden to the U.S. Department of Justice, alleging that both of them lied to Congress during the impeachment inquiry of President Joe Biden. The referral, signed by Reps. James Comer, Jim Jordan, and Jason Smith, accuses the Bidens of making false statements under oath, which allegedly implicates Joe Biden’s knowledge and involvement in their family’s overseas financial activities. The letter urges the DOJ to bring charges against both Hunter and James Biden for making false statements and Hunter Biden for perjury under the law.
The letter specifically points to instances where Hunter Biden allegedly lied about his involvement in a business used to funnel money from overseas deals, as well as falsely describing threats he made to a Chinese business partner and his relationship to a former business associate. Similarly, it accuses James Biden, Joe Biden’s brother, of lying about attending a meeting with Joe Biden, Hunter Biden, and a former business associate.

The DOJ has yet to respond to the criminal referral, leaving the outcome of the situation pending.
