House GOP Sues DOJ for Biden Interview Audio Amid Transparency Clash

When was the last time the Justice Department actually cooperated with a Republican-led House? Apparently, Mike Johnson, House Speaker, has had enough of Merrick Garland’s shenanigans. Johnson announced that the House Judiciary Committee is gearing up to take the Justice Department to court next week to get the audio from President Biden’s interview with special counsel Robert Hur. Like clockwork, the DOJ is hiding behind one excuse after another.

Johnson has made it clear that this lawsuit is no joke. The GOP is planning to march straight into district court in D.C. and demand the tape. After all, transparency is apparently only a virtue when it’s politically convenient. Robert Hur’s investigation managed to conclude that President Biden did indeed mishandle classified documents, but there are no criminal charges. Why? Because they figured a jury would feel sorry for him for being old and forgetful. That’s liberal logic for you—selective accountability.

Sure, the transcript of Biden’s interview is already out there, but Johnson wants to hear what Sleepy Joe actually said. With the audio, there will be no confusing “Bidenese” to misinterpret. Johnson insists it’s crucial to confirm the written transcript with the audio evidence, which Garland conveniently refuses to hand over. And for this, Johnson’s not backing down one bit.

Earlier this month, the House voted to hold Attorney General Garland in contempt for refusing to turn over the audio. The result? The Justice Department twiddled its thumbs and declined to prosecute Garland. Shocking, right? Now, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna from Florida is getting in on the action, detailing her own plan to force a vote on an “inherent contempt” resolution against Garland.

Johnson has had talks with Luna about her fiery plan, but nothing’s set in stone yet. The overarching message here? The GOP aims to go full throttle, using any resource available to enforce the Constitution. Who knew upholding laws could be such a radical idea? It seems that equal treatment under the law remains a tough pill for some to swallow.
