Two violent criminals ambushed him during an attempted robbery under the George Washington Bridge Saturday night. The shooters are illegal immigrants from the Dominican Republic with long criminal histories. Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez and Cristian Aybar Berroa invaded our country illegally before committing this vicious act. Both had been released into American communities by Biden administration policies despite being dangerous felons. Their presence here is a direct result of reckless open-border agendas.
These criminals entered the United States under President Biden’s failed leadership. Mora Nunez crossed the border illegally in April 2023 and was immediately set free into our neighborhoods. Berroa followed the same path in June 2022, released by federal authorities who ignored the threat he posed. This irresponsible catch-and-release approach put Americans in danger.
The ambush unfolded when the two suspects rode a scooter toward the officer and his companion late at night. They pulled a gun and demanded valuables in what police call an attempted robbery. When the heroic officer drew his weapon to defend himself, the cowardly attackers opened fire at close range. This senseless violence happened in a public park where families gather.
Thankfully, the wounded agent survived his injuries and remains hospitalized in stable condition. He represents the brave men and women risking everything to protect our nation’s borders every day. While he recovers from gunshot wounds to his cheek and arm, his attackers face justice. This patriot’s courage in confronting these criminals deserves our deepest respect.
New York City’s sanctuary policies directly enabled this attack. Both suspects had outstanding immigration detainers that local officials ignored. Instead of cooperating with federal authorities to deport these dangerous individuals, radical politicians shielded them. Their sanctuary city ideology puts illegal immigrants above the safety of American citizens.
