A recent poll by The Economist and YouGov has shown that more independents choose former President Donald Trump rather than current Vice President Joe Biden. The survey conducted between May 27 and May 31, 2023, asked respondents who they would vote for between Biden and Trump if the main election for 2024 were conducted today.
Surprisingly, there was a tie between the two at 39% of the vote, followed by 9% who said they wouldn’t participate, 7% who replied “other,” and 5% who were still undecided. However, Biden was leading Trump by three points among people registered to vote.

As expected, 83% of Republicans indicated that they would vote for Trump, while 86% of Democrats said they would vote for Biden. Non-party members, however, had 36% of respondents who said they would cast their ballot for Trump, while Biden only had the support of 26% of voters. This puts him at a significant disadvantage in the general election.
Of the independents polled, 17% indicated that they wouldn’t vote, 11% replied “other,” and 9% weren’t sure. Surprisingly, when respondents were asked whether they think Biden or Trump will win the election without regard to their own choices, 39% indicated that Trump would triumph, while 36% thought Biden would prevail.
It seems like each party is about equally certain that their candidate would win, with 72% of Democrats choosing Biden and 73% of Republicans choosing Trump. As for the undecided voters, 40% said that Trump would win, while only 26% predicted a win for Biden.
The study included 1,500 US adults and remarkably aligned with a previous early May poll that showed Trump with a commanding lead against Biden in a hypothetical matchup between the two. In that poll, 49% of the respondents said they would vote for Trump without hesitation, or lean towards him, while 42% said they would vote for Biden, putting Trump significantly ahead over Biden, well beyond the survey’s margin of error.
One thing is clear from these poll results: the American people anticipate the return of a Trump presidency and the liberal mainstream media, which tries to push Biden’s false narrative, must accept that the people’s choice is Donald Trump.
